Operation Dawn 10 or Walfajr-10 (Persian: عملیات والفجر ۱۰) was an operation which was launched during Iran-Iraq war by Iran against Iraq on 15 March 1988. In "operation dawn 10", Iran changed its operational area from the south to the west, and commenced a vast operation simultaneously with the Islamic prophet Muhammad's first revelation by the name of Walfajr-10[1] with the code of "Ya Rasūl Allāh (s)" (Persian: (یا رسول الله (ص)[2] (likewise "Ya Muhammad ibn Abdullah")[3][4][5] and performed it in 5 steps.[1]
At operation dawn-10[6][7] which was performed in west fronts and heights overlooking "Darbandikhan lake" (Dasht-e-Zoor) in Sulaymaniyah Governorate of Iraq,[2] was led into siege and capture of 3 towns[2] and over 100 villages[8] in a region by the area of 1200 square kilometers.[9]
As a result of the operation whose command was by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran, some towns of Iraq were occupied, including Halabja, Kharmal, Biareh and Tawileh. Town of Nosud in Iran was liberated; meanwhile, about 10.000 Iraqi forces were killed[5] and 5440 were captured.[5][10]
